By The Pricking of My Thumbs, Agatha Christie
The Book
It may be Tommy and Tuppence's last case. When Tommy's elderly aunt passes away at a nursing home, they inherit a painting from a well known artist. It was given to Tommy's aunt by a lady who had recently arrived. Tuppence had talked with the lady for a bit, and liked her. Since the lady, a Mrs. Lancaster, was whisked away just before Tommy's aunt's death, Tuppence tries to solve where the lady went, why she was whisked away so secretly, and if she wants the painting back. All avenues fails.
But Tuppence isn't one to let a mystery go. Especially because she believes something may happen to Mrs. Lancaster. She does the only thing she knows how to do, she hunts down the house in the painting. Once she accomplishes this, she finds she's in the middle of another mystery. But if she unravels it alone, how will Tommy save her if she's in over her head?
My Thoughts
Actually, I think Tommy and Tuppence may be my favorite Agatha Christie couple. Tuppence has always been the quicker of the two, but Tommy, knows how to reason out a problem. He may reason more slowly than Tuppence, but he doesn't come to the wrong conclusion. They are smart people, used to danger, who get themselves into interesting scrapes. I'm pretty sure this is the third (or is the fourth) novel in this series and happily I think there is one more. I only have a few more Agatha Christies to read before I am done with every novel she ever wrote under the Agatha Christie name. There are six Mary Westmacotts romance novels that I've never read. And I don't know if I want to read them. But maybe, one day in the future I will.
How Much My Library Card Saved Me
This book came to me from Fremont Public Library District. They are one of those library systems which does not indicate how long a specific book has been in their system. But this book seems new. If I had to hazard a guess, since it looks to be in such good shape, I would say this was purchased sometime post pandemic and has been lightly read ever since. I'm not the first to read it. I know this because the book is not stiff and it doesn't have new book smell. This William H Morrow paperback edition is similar to those that started appearing in 2011. The back says it cost $12.99 that's the number I will use.
