N or M, Agatha Christie
The Book:
Tommy and Tuppence are back. This blogger last saw them in The Secret Adversary, where they were two young, poor people getting into the spy world after struggling through The Great War. The couple, now settling into their mid 40s with two grown children are once again at it, trying to discover who the German agents a man name N and a woman named M.
Tommy is recruited to do the job alone, and he urges his handler to recruit Tuppence, the handler refuses. Tommy gets into the seaside town, checks into the hotel, and who does he find? Tuppence, under a pseudonym, of course.
From there, it's a Tommy and Tuppence so there are a few shenanigans before they unmask the dastardly duo of spies.
My Thoughts
This book is one of the thrillers Agatha Christie wrote. The thrillers don't tend to work as well as the puzzle mysteries. But, for some reason, Tommy and Tuppence seem to work better. Maybe that's because the chemistry between Tommy and Tuppence works so well, or maybe it's because they seem like this adventurous duo who would get themselves into a wild, cartoon-like adventure. Maybe, they're just more fun. Anyway, I like them. I would have liked more novels featuring the two of them.
This one is a pretty fast read, and if you're willing to suspend your disbelief for a bit, then you abosultely will enjoy it. It may not be Agatha Christie's best work, but it's not bad.
How Much My Library Card Saved Me
This book came to me from Evanston Library. It was a paperback version in fair condition. despite what the cover looks like in the photo. It's like the camera adds a bit of flimsy. It is of the same set of papberbacks that I've been reading. The cover said this one cost $12.99, so that is the number we will use.
This Book $12.99
Items Reviewed This Year $310.89
